How to take a mud bath

Why Bentonite Clay bath:

Bentonite clay is aged volcanic ash also known as “Montmorillonite.”

Healing clays like bentonite have a high concentration of minerals including Silica, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Iron, and Potassium. It also absorbs and removes toxins, heavy metals, impurities, and chemicals. While you are cleansing the skin your body is being nourished with rich minerals.

It's negatively charged ions pulls positively charged toxins in the body and help the body to detox. If you see globs of clay sticking to certain spots on the skin that is an indication that clay is attracted to toxin concentration on that spot.

Bentonite clay is a common ingredient in detox and cleansing products. Common external uses include poultices, mud packs, detox baths, and skin care recipes.

Few tips for your Bentonite Clay bath,

  • Fill your tub with warm water. Water temperature should not be too hot. Bentonite has the property to increase blood flow. Hot water will only increase the blood flow more so make sure the water is warm enough to your comfort.

  • Use a good drain plug. You don't want the Bentonite clay lumps getting into your drain.

  • Prepare the clay. Mix the 1-4 cup of clay with water and break the lumps to keep the paste smooth. Consistency of paste should be dense enough to stick to your body and not just flow away if you are doing body mask.

  • There are two ways of using this paste,

    • Clay Bath: Pour the clay mix into the bathtub while you are in the water and swirl the water to mix it well.

    • Clay Body Mask: Apply the paste all over the body including your face and feet. If there is leftover clay just pour in the bathtub water.

  • Don't stay in the water for more than 20 minutes to avoid nausea

  • Take a cold shower to rinse off all the clay from your body. Cold water helps to close all the pores after a warm bath.

  • Moisturize: Your skin will feel very dry. This is normal due to clay's property of absorbing moisture. Apply any moisturizer that you use.

  • Use a screen to pick up big lumps from the bathtub and throw away. Drain the water now.

  • Be Safe: Bentonite, when mixed with water, is very slippery. Layout a few towels on the floor before stepping out to avoid slipping on the floor.
